Centre of Excellence Schools: where students learn the skills of tomorrow
Gone are the days when study was only restricted to academic books and rote learning. There was a time when schools were simply centres of rote learning and exams at schools were methods of testing memory of a student. Today, education has diversified into the imbibing of various skill sets. In a highly competitive world where skilled manpower and practical experience is given more importance than theoretical knowledge, it is important that the present generation of students secure an education that strikes a balance between theoretical knowledge and practical skill enhancement. It is no more enough to only teach the students what the books have reiterated over the years. It is necessary that experiential learning and teaching by example are adopted by today’s schools. As a chain of state government run model schools, the Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya are setting examples of modern education for other schools of the state and the country. Apart from offering high quality education to meritorious students of the state for free, an Adarsha Vidyalaya is also where modern education and traditional values of learning are applied to give a new face to contemporary learning. The Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya are a chain of schools run by the Odisha government where meritorious and needy students from the lower sections of the society are offered education for free. The government not only offers the opportunity of education to the young children but also gives them the proper base to develop into responsible and contributing citizens of the country. An Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya has great infrastructure, a strong and educated faculty and all modern facilities on offer for the deserving students of the state who want to empower themselves with the light of education. The state government is constantly working towards bettering the educational infrastructure of the Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya. Under the initiative to improve the infrastructure of the Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya, 10 Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya have been chosen by the state government to be transformed into Centres of Excellence. These Centres of Excellence Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya will be changed into scientifically upgraded schools by the inclusion of well equipped laboratories of science. In these well equipped laboratories, students can explore the magnificence of science and emerge as future innovators and thinkers. The 10 Centres of Excellence Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya have also been upgraded with hostel facilities for the kids so that the students can live in a secure community of learning and grow up in a competitive academic environment that pushes them towards excellence. Two of the 10 Centres of Excellence Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya are located in Bolangir District. One of these is Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya Patharchepa in Bolangir Block and the other is Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya Bibina in Saintala block. Similarly, two Centres of Excellence Odisha Adarsha Vidyalayas have been established in the Ganjam District in Patrapur and Polasra blocks named Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya Badapur and Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya Hatiota. Kalahandi district has two Centres of Excellence Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya named Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya Musiguda in Bhawanipatna block and Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya Madanpur in Madanpur Rampur block. Keonjhar districts has two Centres of Excellence Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya named Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya Champua in Champua block and Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya Salapada in Anandpur block. Similarly, Koraput district has one Centres of Excellence named Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya Machhra in Koraput block and Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya Sanmouda in Mayurbhanj district of Rairangpur block has also been turned into a Centre of Excellence Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya.
